Information

The exhibition “Rhythm and Soul – Contemporary Brazilian Art”, curated by Tereza de Arruda for 68projects by KORNFELD, brings together artists from different regions and generations of Brazil. At its core is rhythm as an artistic, cultural, and political force—shaping identity, resistance, and spirituality, and reflecting Brazil’s dynamic social fabric.
Works by Francisco de Almeida, Rafael Baron, Panmela Castro, Lia D. Castro, Samir Dams, Mayara Ferrão, Alex Flemming, José Gomes, Rosilene Luduvico, muSa Michelle Mattiuzzi, OBastardo, Heitor dos Prazeres, Nádia Taquary, Ehuana Yanomami, and Joseca Yanomami interweave everyday narratives with Afro-diasporic and Indigenous traditions, historical references, and contemporary questions of body, territory, and belonging. Together, they portray Brazil as a country shaped by contrasts—between joy and trauma, past and future, ritual and protest.
“Rhythm and Soul” invites audiences to view Brazil not as a distant spectacle but as a living reality whose creative energy resonates far beyond national borders. In Berlin—another city marked by musical and social movements—rhythm becomes both a mirror and an inspiring force for new perspectives.
